ProBots 2023 … Sideloaded?! (Preview)

Why, hello there! Welcome back, ProBots fans. We’ve missed you, and I come bearing news of our next competition.

I am excited to announce ProBots 2023 – Sideloaded. “What is ‘Sideloaded’?” you might be asking through your screen.

It’s a new experimental competition that will cap off our tournament season. With six weeks of competition and a different format and seeding than our traditional seasons, I am looking forward to hosting this competition.

First the format…

Format

The tournament consists of three stages:

Stage 1: Single Elimination Qualification Matches. The 8 lowest-ranked bots compete in the Round of 16 (Ro16). The 4 winners advance to join the 4 highest-ranked non-invited bots in the Round of 12 (Ro12).

Stage 2: The 4 winners from the Round of 12 join the 4 semi-finalists from the previous season in a GSL Style Round of 8 (Ro8) Group Stage.

Stage 3: The top 2 bots from each group proceed to a 4-bot Semi-Final and Final Single Elimination Playoffs bracket.

Each series in Stages 1 and 2 will be a best-of-3 match. In Stage 3, the semi-finals will be best-of-5, and the grand final will be a best-of-7.

Seeding

This Sideloaded season will employ staggered seeding, where bots will be placed in different positions or stages of the bracket depending on their seed. This approach will create dynamic matchups, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as they anticipate the various strategies that will unfold.
